Gingerbread - Пряники



Christmas baking wouldn't be complete without the cute Gingerbread Figures.
We bake gingerbread every year,  when the Christmas is approaching. This is a traditional biscuit in Hungary. Ginger is totally omitted from Hungarian Gingerbread. This is a honey biscuit with cinnamon.

Mussels steamed in white wine

Ingredients: 2 kg mussels, cleaned and debearded, 200 ml dry white wine, 50 g butter, 3 shallots, 3-4 garlic cloves, 1 carrots, 1 bay leaf, fresh parsley, black pepper

Instructions:
1. Shallots and the carrots cut into slices, garlic cloves chopped  finely.
2. Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the shallots, and cook until translucent. Add the carrots, garlic, bay leaf, parsley and steam for a 5-6 minutes.  
3. Pour in the wine and bring to a boil. Add the mussels, immediately cover the pan and steam over a moderate heat, shaking the pan occasionally for 6-7 minutes, until the mussels have opened. Discard the bay leaf, and any mussels that have not opened.  
4. Transfer the mussels to a serving bowl, sprinkle with the  parsley and with freshly ground black pepper. Serve immediately with slices of bread or with pommes frites.

- for the pastry: 250 g all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon sugar powder, ¼ teaspoon salt, 150 g cold, unsalted butter, 1 egg, vanilla 
- for the caramel: 200 g sugar, 100 g butter
- for the filling: 4 apples, 1 tablespoon sugar, cinnamon

Asparagus Salad - Салат со спаржей



Asparagus Salad 
 
Ingredients: asparagus, soy sauce or salt, tomatoes, green pepper, lettuce, lemon, oil, peppergrass, parsley.


Recipe:

The cleaned asparagus is cooked in salted water, then we let it cool down. The tomatoes are cut to cells, the green pepper to round slices, the lettuce to pieces, then these are mixed. The sauce is made from squeezed, strained lemon, oil and soy sauce. The vegetables are put on top of the asparagus, or mixed with it (in this case the asparagus is also cut to pieces).
